Storm Rider – Croatian post-apocalypse

19.03.26.

Storm Rider - a Hollywood film spectacle that combines action and science fiction, was filmed throughout Dalmatia

The Hollywood-Croatian film project Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead (under the working title The Islander) made a significant international breakthrough with its world premiere in Los Angeles, where it was shown at the prestigious Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. It is an ambitious post-apocalyptic spectacle that brings a combination of action and science fiction, but also an important turning point for Croatian cinematography.

Local Cast

The film is the result of the collaboration of local and international authors, and the direction and script are signed by Domagoj Mažuran and Zoran Lisinac. The production is led by Neb Chupin, who has behind him a number of projects in the American industry. It was this combination of experience and local authenticity that enabled the film to become the first true co-production between Hollywood and Croatia, with a clear ambition of global reach.

Special weight is given to the project by the international cast, which includes Billy Barratt, James Cosmo, Caroline Goodall, Marco Ilsø and Sara Sofie Boussnina, along with well-known regional names: Goran Bogdan, Sergej Trifunović, Ivana Dudić and Marinko Prga.

The film is set in a dystopian world marked by constant storms and broken islands, where two young rebels embark on a dangerous journey to discover the truth about their own world and break down the boundaries imposed by the system.

Dalmatian location

One of the film’s key assets is its production value. It was shot in attractive locations across Croatia – from Pag, Kornati and Vodice, to Split, Brač and Hvar, all the way to Dubrovnik – which have been transformed into a visually striking post-apocalyptic world.

After its premiere in Los Angeles, the film is heading for wide distribution in the United States, where it will be shown in more than 300 cinemas, setting a precedent for regional film production. Croatian audiences will have the opportunity to see the film from April 9, 2026, further confirming its international potential.

This project is not only a film spectacle, but also an important step towards a stronger positioning of Croatia on the global film scene – as a country that is no longer just a filming location, but also an equal creative partner in major productions.
